PTE

PTE stands for Pearson Test of English, a computer-based test that assesses a person’s English language skills:
  • PTE Academic: A test that assesses a person’s ability to use English in academic settings, including listening, reading, speaking, and writing. It’s accepted by thousands of institutions and is approved for visas and immigration in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • PTE Core: A general English test.
  • PTE Academic UKVI and PTE Home A1, A2 & B1: Tests for study, work, or settling in the UK.

The PTE test is designed for non-native speakers who want to apply to university courses in English-speaking countries. It’s trusted by universities, colleges, and governments around the world.

The test is two hours long and includes:
  • An untimed introduction where you introduce yourself
  • Part 1: Speaking and writing, which takes 54–67 minutes
  • Part 2: Reading, which takes 29–39 minutes
  • Part 3: Listening, which takes 30–43 minutes
  • The test includes 20 different question styles, such as: multiple choice, essay writing, and interpreting information.

There are no specific eligibility criteria for the PTE test, but individual universities or visa applications may have their own score requirements.
